Flames teared through hillsides in San Bernardino County as the Line Fire continued to burn Thursday after reaching 83 containment. It scorched through tens of thousands of acres this month.

Line Fire initially started 6:33 p.m. Sep. 5 in San Bernardino County. It has burned 39,232 acres after being active for 20 days. A crew of 1,572 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 83% of the fire as of Wednesday evening. The fire is suspected to have been started deliberately.

Cal Fire said about four structures were damaged and one was destroyed based on the damage assessments so far.

The Line Fire displayed "minimal activity" in the early morning hours Sunday, giving some respite in the ongoing firefighting efforts in San Bernardino County.

Bridge Fire initially started 2:12 p.m. Sep. 8 in Los Angeles, San Bernardino County. After being active for 19 days, it has burned 54,878 acres. A fire crew of 377 succeeded in containing 97% of the fire by Friday morning. Investigations into its cause are still ongoing.

As the fast-moving Bridge Fire began destroying homes and property in the Wrightwood area, San Bernardino County leaders proclaimed an emergency.

An off-duty sheriff’s deputy and two people with him, who were trapped by the flames in the fire zone on Wednesday morning near the Mount Baldy, were brought to safety.
