New Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday said that the Railways is working closely with all state governments, Director Generals of Police (DGP) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to track miscreants who are trying to derail trains by placing objects on tracks.

Notably, the NIA is a Central Counter-Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency in India. The involvement of NIA in train sabotage attempts shows that the Railways is also exploring terror angle. Speaking to the media in Jaipur on Tuesday (24 September), Vaishnaw emphasised that the railway administration is on high alert and taking these threats seriously.

NIA is yet to officially register any case to look into suspected sabotage incidents on the railway tracks but they are “informally” looking into it.

Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that the government is coordinating with the National Investigation Agency and state officials to combat frequent train sabotage attempts. Incidents like stone-pelting on the Mahabodhi Express underscore these dangers.

The development comes close on the heels of several instances when locomotive pilots have spotted harmful objects on railway tracks.
