A LBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On Saturday, June 8, SOWEGA RISING hosted its annual Orange Rally Candlelight Vigil and Movie in the Park event in an effort to stop gun violence.

During Tuesday’s county commission meeting, county leaders presented SOWEGA Rising and the family of Nigel Brown a proclamation recognizing June 7 as Gun Violence Awareness Day.

The holiday is also known as Freedom Day and Emancipation Day as it commemorates the end of slavery in America.
