A quality control coach from the 49ers staff is running special teams for one of the Senior Bowl teams this year.

The 49ers fired special teams coordinator Brian Schneider on Monday, the first move made by coach Kyle Shanahan after a 6-11 season. Schneider’s units were a year-long problem in contributing to one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history.

The 49ers seem adamant to give it another go in 2025. This time, with a more accomplished commodity leading the charge in Robert Saleh.

Banjo only entered the coaching ranks in 2023, but he wasted no time getting into coaching after his 10-year NFL career. He was an undrafted rookie signing by the Jacksonville Jaguars after the 2013 draft. Banjo also spent time with the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals.

The former safety and special teams ace played for the Packers, Saints and Cardinals in an NFL career that spanned 2013-2023 after going undrafted out of Southern Methodist.

Former Green Bay Packers safety Chris Banjo is on the short list of potential special teams coordinator candidates for the San Francisco 49ers as Kyle Shanahan attempts to shore up that area of his team.

The San Francisco 49ers are continuing their search to replace recently fired special teams coordinator Brian Schneider. On Sunday, the team interviewed Detroit Lions assistant special teams coach Jett Modkins for the position.
