One fire remains after three wildfires began earlier this week in McDowell County. McDowell County Emergency Management Division said the fires burned through the following areas:Sign up for our NewslettersNorth Fork (American Thread Road area)Watson PlaceCrooked Creek (Bat Cave Road area) The North Fork Fire is the only one that remains as of Saturday.

Approximately 100 personnel from the U.S. Forest Service, North Carolina Forest Service, McDowell County Emergency Management, and Woodlawn Fire Department are on the ground assisting with the North Fork Fire today. No structures are at risk at this time.

An outside fire has been reported on Bat Cave Road in Old Fort after a tree fell on a power line, local authorities said.

The evacuation orders given by the McDowell County Office of Emergency Management were lifted Jan. 30 after an 'out of control' wildfire burned 220 acres.

McDowell County Emergency Management said that the wildfire in Old Fort is currently 15% contained, but evacuation orders remain in place. The wildfire, burning in the Crooked Creek community, is estimated to cover 250 acres.

Kournikova, who stays mostly out of the spotlight, has been with singer Enrique Iglesias since 2001. Phyllis Fong, a 22-year veteran of the Agriculture Department, had told colleagues that she intended to stay after the White House fired her Friday.

As one fire is contained, another one grows in McDowell County

Wildfires continue to burn in McDowell County. The Crooked Creek fire has burned 220 acres and the North Folk fire has burned 60 acres.
