As it turns out, one of the defining upgrades of the Nintendo Switch 2 is actually an old concept developed for the original Nintendo Switch.

The arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 heralds some much-needed improvements over its predecessor, especially its Joy-Con controllers. Here’s a quick breakdown of what the announcement trailer showed us about the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons.

Nintendo’s short video offers a closer look at the Switch 2 Joy-Con, showcasing how the controller works and attaches to the console.

Perhaps more importantly, the video shows the Joy-Con clicking onto a separate piece before going into mouse mode. This other piece looks like it has some small pads on the bottom, like a computer mouse would, to make it a little easier to slide around.

The new Nintendo Switch 2 trailer has just dropped, confirming the existence of what might well be the most leaked console in history. In addition, this debut look at the successor seemingly confirms that the Joy-Con controllers will indeed include mouse functionality.

However, a video does show off the large button on the back of the new Joy-Cons on the official Nintendo Switch 2 website. Originally discovered and shared on r/NintendoSwitch2, the looping clip reveals that pressing this button down is what disengages either Joy-Con from the handheld.
